Play GC Homebrew / Emulators on the Nintendo Wii console
This is a guide on how to run homebrew on your Wii, Gamecube style.
Note: This only gets the Wii running in Gamecube mode and,
pending further hacking, Wii functionality cannot be used. This
will only work on non-european consoles.
A Wii Console (any region)
Action Replay Max GC (purchase)
SD Card Adapter (purchase or you can Make your own )
Compatible SD Card (purchase)
First you will want to prepare the SD Card to be able to boot from your Action Replay disc. So insert it into your computer's SD Card reader and then format it as FAT or FAT16. To do this right click on the drive letter assigned to the card and pick format. Select FAT or FAT16 (not FAT32) .
Next you'll want to run the sdpatch.exe program that comes with the SDLoad archive. To do this extract the archive to a folder (directory) on your computer and then use the Command Line Interface to go to that directory. Say you extracted the SDLoad archive to "c:\sdload" you would go to START -> RUN and type in either "command" or "cmd" (depending on which version of Windows you have) and this will load the Command Line Interface. Next you will want to change the directory to where SDLoad has been extracted to and to do so you would type "c:\" then "cd\sdload". Finally, type in "sdpatch.exe (drive letter)"
Example: sdpatch.exe e:\
Now you need to copy the "sdloader.bin" file from the directory you extracted the SDLoad archive onto your SD Card. Make sure to place it in the root of the card!
After this you can fill the card with various homebrew games, applications and emulators, as long as they are in .dol format.
After preparing your SD Card insert it into your SD Card reader and plug into memory card slot A.
Next pop in your Action Replay Card into slot B and the Action Replay disc into the Wii.
When Action Replay boots, pick the USA flag, and then "ADD NEW GAME". "SDLOAD" is the game name you should use. Now push "Done". Now you have to enter the codes to allow SDLoad to operate.
Firstly, the master code. Put its name as "(m)":
Then select ADD NEW CODE and name it "SDLoad" Enter the following code. Dont get it wrong !
Now select the code named SDLoad and check the box next to it, press Start and open and close the lid of disc drive when prompted. Then SDLoad starts up and you can now select which homebrew game you wish to boot.
The Code Process is a one time thing and from then on you can enjoy the world of Gamecube Homebrew and Emulators on your Wii Console easily and without Modification.
Emulators for Gamecube that will work this way include emulators for Snes, Genesis, GameBoy Advance, Gameboy Colour, PC Engine and Nes and also a port of Doom.
